Cut Out Beverages That Contain Caffeine in the Afternoon

Believe it or not, what you drink in the afternoon can affect your ability to fall asleep. I know that for me, I can not have anything that contains caffeine after 2:00 pm or I will have a difficult time falling asleep at night. You’ll need to find out your individual ‘stop time’ time for caffeinated beverages. You may need to cut out your afternoon coffee or tea break.

You’ll also want to check the labels on other favorite beverages to see if they contain caffeine.  We were just checking Root Beer labels and it seems some of the brands contain caffeine and others don’t; the same holds true for flavored waters. Most energy drinks contain a lot of caffeine so you will definitely want to avoid these later in the day (in my opinion you shouldn’t be  drinking them at all).

Be your own detective and start reading those liquid labels for caffeine. A friend of mine had sent this list out recently of what she found was the caffeine content in mg’s per average serving:

Coffee  100-120
Black Tea  30-60
Green Tea  25-50
Decaf Tea  1-8
Herbal Tea  0
12 oz  Coca Cola  23-25
12 oz can of diet Coke  23-47
12 oz Coke Zero – 34
12 oz Pepsi  32-39
12 oz diet Pepsi  27-37
12 oz Mt. Dew (reg or diet)  42-55
1 oz dark chocolate – 12
1 oz milk chocolate – 6
